What You Need to Know About Vail Legacy Days

Vail Legacy Days is a four-day event celebrating the foundation of our beautiful Vail. Learn about the founders, the 10th Mountain Division, and the people that made our city what it is today.

  • Who?

Vail Legacy Days is brimming with influential members of the community and reenactors, alike. The festival aims to inform and entertain the town’s residents and visitors through interactive shows and events. Come to face to face with the 10th Mountain Division’s soldiers and follow along during the recreation of the founder’s first hike.

  • What?

    • 10th Mountain Legacy Parade

Watch as the 10th Mountain, snow-suit-wearing, soldiers carry their wooden skis down Bridge Street. The parade includes a torch-lit ski down to Gondola One, hot chocolate, and a small firework show.

    • Recreation of the Founder’s First Hike

Earl Eaton and Pete Seibert climbed to, what is now, Ptarmigan Ridge in 1957 and decided that was the spot they were going to form a luxury ski resort. Climb back in time and ski down Sun Down Bowl just as they did so many years ago.

    • Anniversary of the Battle of Riva Ridge

The event ends with a commemoration of the Battle of Riva Ridge. Celebrate one of the 10th Mountain Division’s most successful World War II victories, the Battle of River Ridge. Meet at the top of Mountain Top Lift and ski down in triumph in honor of those who fought to the end.

  • Where?

Vail Legacy Days takes place throughout Vail. From the parade on Bridge Street to the hikes and hikes on the mountain, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the event.

  • When?

This year’s Vail Legacy Days takes place on February 14th-18th. Attend this free event and discover Vail’s history.
