Opening Day Vail Mountain and MORE for Early Season 2016

The buzz around Vail is electric and there is nothing like it when ski season is upon us. When will the first big snow storm arrive? What runs will Vail Resorts open? What will be the new “hot spot” for après ski? Get your ski outfit ready, get your skis waxed and your ski rack on your car, the 2016 -2017 Vail Ski Season is going to be BIG in every aspect!

Opening Day on Vail Mountain is Friday, November 18st. Seeing friends on the slopes of Vail Mountain, enjoying a beautiful day testing out my skiing legs, walking through Vail, grabbing an après drink and a slice at Vendetta’s in Vail Village or a Deschutes beer and chicken wings at Garfinkel’s in Lionshead, swapping Opening Day stories with others at the bar, there’s NOTHING like Opening Day on Vail Mountain.

Another favorite day on Vail Mountain is Thanksgiving. Taking a few late morning laps on the Born Free chairlift or Gondola 1, meandering through Vail Village for a holiday bourbon cocktail before your turkey dinner is a highlight to kicking off the Holiday Season in Vail.

Try strolling up and down the heated streets of Vail, to the heart of it all, on Bridge Street. What you can’t resist going into Gorsuch to see the new skiwear from Bogner, Kjus and Jet Set? Bright colors are filling the retail racks for 2016 – 2017. My husband appreciates it when I have on bright colored ski outfits that stands out on the hill so he can always spot me on the mountain or in the chairlift line on busy days. My favorite Vail T-Shirts for adults are by Alp-N-Rock, which you can find at Gorsuch. These T’s have a beautiful feminine cut for women and a comfortable fit for men. The vintage Euro-style looks great for dinner out at any Vail restaurant, wear with jeans, puffy vest and fur boots and you’re ready for a fun night out. To keep your head warm and stylish, beanies are a must again for this winter. To add that additional bit of Vail Chic, I suggest a beanie with a fur pom-pom on top paired with big sunglasses for off mountain après style. Another beanie trend for both men and women for 2016 – 2017 ski season are the Colorado State flag inspired beanies of royal blue with a red and yellow “C”. The BEST one I’ve found so far are at Beaver Liquors in Avon, the owner, David Courtney’s Midwestern mother hand knits Colorado beanies in sizes from newborn to adult. These beanies are a huge hit, I’ve given them as baby gifts and adult birthday gifts to rave reviews.

Vail Snow Daze, the largest early-season mountain bash in North America, returns December 9 – 11, 2016. Enjoy fresh tracks on the mountain and sponsor expo village by day and après parties and free live concerts by night. Check back soon for more details on Snow Daze 2016!
