Plan the Ultimate Denver, CO to Vail, CO Road Trip

The Centennial State is truly the best state to road trip through (in our humble opinion). From the majestic mountains to the quirky restaurants to the thrilling activities, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy during your Denver, CO to Vail, CO road trip.

  • Have Breakfast at Denver Biscuit Company

Who said the South had the best biscuit recipe? They must have never visited Denver Biscuit Company. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, but here are our suggestions.

Indulge in The Franklin. Not much is better than buttermilk fried chicken, country ham, bacon, local cheddar cheese, and house-made creamy sausage gravy. Say it with us, yum.

Try a Giant Biscuit Cinnamon Roll. What could be better than a flakey, buttery biscuit? A flakey, buttery biscuit slapped in icing and sprinkled with sugar, that’s what. And trust us, you’ll want to splurge on the bacon add on.

Get the Biscuits + Gravy. Buttery biscuits smothered in our homemade sausage gravy. It’s just the same as the classic, but better.

  • Pan For Gold

Northwest Colorado offers a few different spots to strike it rich in the Rockies. Hideaway Gold Mine in Central City is a hot spot for cross country drivers. The cavern offers tours and panning options through an active gold mine. Argo Mill and Tunnel offers guests a historical tour through the once fully operating Idaho Springs gold mill. Phoenix Gold Mine will take you off the beaten path to tour and pan at another one of the region’s active mills.

  • Get a View From the Top at Grays Peak

You’ll have to venture out of your way just a few miles, but once you get to Grays Peak summit, you’ll see why it was totally worth it. The peak is the tenth-highest mountain peak of the Rocky Mountains and is one of the best photo ops in the area.

  • Grab Dinner at Mountain Standard

Once you arrive in Vail, the first thing you’ll want to do is grab a bite to eat. Check out the rustic setting of Mountain Standard. The new-age restaurant puts a farm-to-table twist on the traditional steak house. Order the Three Little Pigs and a Big Bad Wolf and experience the house-selected cured pork selections paired with Josh’s Whiskey Mustard. Compliment that with a local beer flight, and you’re in for a warm, Vail welcome.
